Audiobook Download Guide - Tips & Answers to Audiobook Download Questions

DRM Free
Digital Rights Management (DRM) systems restrict a consumer to only certain manufactures of playback devices that have built in DRM circuitry and/or software.  The intent of DRM is to limit a consumer's ability to copy a work and distribute to others.  DRM has been very controversial, and business leaders such as Steve Jobs, Apple Computer, Inc. strongly oppose its use.

We believe that all audiobooks should be DRM free and the vast majority of what we offer can be played without restrictions.  When a publisher insists DRM be utilized we cooperate and note accordingly on each download.

2. What Do I Need Before I Buy an eAudiobook?

Simply decide how & where you wish to listen to your audiobooks - while in your easy chair or on-the-go, or both.

You will be downloading an electronic file to your computer and then you can transfer it to CDs or keep it as an electronic file and transfer it to your portable player like an iPod or Blackberry.

By the way - a 120 Gigabyte iPod will store approximately 500 10-hour eAudiobooks.

3. What is an Mp3? Will they work in my portable player?

An Mp3 is a compressed audio format.  Typically, you can compress approximately 12 CDs into one Mp3 representing 1200 minutes of playing time.

All of eAudiobooks are provided in the compressed Mp3 format  We have organized the eAudiobook into segments and chapters so that you can stop and start with ease.

Transferring an eAudiobook to your portable device - like an iPod - is similar to transferring music and please refer to Apples iTunes website or the site for your portable device.

4. What is Digital Rights Management (DRM)? Do you use it?

Digital Rights Management (DRM) is a software control that restricts the use and copying of electronic files.  The publisher, in concert with the author, decide whether or not to restrict a work through the use of DRM.  We do not make the decision but cooperate with the publisher to ensure it is employed.

Digital Rights Management (DRM) has its pros and cons and most publishers and authors are relaxing their restrictions.  Approximately 75% of the titles that we offer are DRM-free!

We want to give you full access to all titles and when a publisher and author require DRM we use the services of Ingram Digital Group to certify the DRM through the use of their "Ingram Media Manager IMM".  IMM is much like MS Windows Media Manager and it must be downloaded to your playback device in order to play an IMM title.  The IMM software is quick and easy to install and it is free - refer to this guide.
